In 2013 Dana Barnes relocated her studio from her loft home in SoHo to a former synagogue on the Lower East Side previously inhabited by artists Milton Resnick and Pat Passlof to accommodate the immense scale of both her sculptures and her growing business.

Barnes utilizes the space to experiment with raw materials of felted wool, alpaca, yak, hemp and bamboo, a process that involves twisting and crocheting yards of material by hand.

The result is an upending of traditional textiles, as Barnes transforms the fibers into vivid and textured abstract floor and wall sculptures.
