<image:title>1025 N. McCadden Opening - 01</image:title>
<image:caption>As a choreographer, is there any background influence behind your dance routines from the context of your childhood? If there’s one thing I can say, I was always drawn towards German Expressionism. A big part of that is how imagery propels the content. There can be elemental absurdism in some of it, but I like to add my part of a minimalist approach. So for the show we did in LA with the new Pucci space- I wanted some motion to be super spare. Originally I came into the studio with SO much choreography- but found I kept having to strip away movement.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Did the dancers bring anything special to the routine as individuals? The dancers really love this kind of work- and I’m so blessed to be working with them. I feel like there’s a real honesty with how they exist in the space. I think those dancers have a level of maturity to exist in the space without being pretentious. I told them, ‘this is not about you, it’s about the objects in the space.’ I stress that they are meant to compliment the environment. They have their own kind of sphere where the audience can look and be drawn to them, but not in an evasive way.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Is there a main idea or takeaway you wanted viewers to have? Something I hold onto when I do a lot of specific choreography: I always like to think that movement somehow leaves behind a little bit of a footprint, or ghost energy. So if people re-visit the space there’s always going to be a bit of that resonance left behind that they’re going to feel or remember (even if they weren’t necessarily there).</image:caption>

<image:title>Pratt student interview - What are your thoughts on exhibiting at Ralph Pucci?</image:title>
<image:caption>It’s funny because I’ve always known about Ralph Pucci, especially coming from Pratt. But I never realized the magnitude of the showrooms. The feeling of the space is so referential and relatable, especially with where I drew inspiration for my latest collection. The furniture pieces in the space remind me of the inspiration I pulled from old interior magazines for my collection, I can see the lines and style of the 60’s. To have my work along side this, I’m just beyond excited. It feels right and good. There’s a quality in the space that feels cherished.</image:caption>

<image:title>Pratt student interview - What was the main inspiration behind the collection?</image:title>
<image:caption>It really was a personal identity thing, I picked out these interesting facets of identity that stuck out to me. Things like spiritual belief, heritage, ethnicity; what makes someone an "American"? Then I pulled imagery that made me feel what all of that meant. And when I started to focus also on doing things I loved and found important, like art, I started to draw and illustrate all the prints and textile patterns myself.</image:caption>

<image:title>Pratt student interview - Is there a fashion designer you find particularly inspiring?</image:title>
<image:caption>That’s hard to say. My work is often compared to Dries van Noten. There’s this article I read about him early on, something about him that has always clicked with me. He’s very representative of Belgian design, which I think brings a visual diversity to the market.</image:caption>

<image:title>Pratt student interview - Where do you see your future work headed, theme-wise?</image:title>
<image:caption>So I don’t have a direct vision of what exactly I look to make next. But for some reason I’m always drawn to one’s nostalgia and what comforts them. For me, my future pieces— whether it be pants or dresses— I see myself making things that enable people to feel real with themselves. I want someone to wear my clothes and feel comfortable both physically and mentally.</image:caption>

<image:title>Pratt student interview - What prompted you to get into fashion originally?</image:title>
<image:caption>It started with my love for art. I always loved drawing and painting, and visiting museums. But when you go to a gallery, the most you can do is look. You can’t really interact very physically with the pieces. This is where fashion, for me, becomes an art, which you can put on. It’s a personal and active moment, always.</image:caption>

<image:title>Benjamin Interview - Are there any new developments we can expect to see from the company? New ideas or totally new designs?</image:title>
<image:caption>Benjamin: That’s really not our point at the moment. Right now we are trying to bring back the models that were prototyped and designed, but were either never produced or produced only in very limited numbers. For President Pompidou’s quarters, there was a very small series produced in the 70’s that are extremely rare on the second market and sold at a very high price. There are so few original pieces that not many can invest in this vintage collection. So we feel we really have to bring back those designs that have a right to exist, and a right to continue to exist.</image:caption>

<image:title>Benjamin Interview - So if he wasn’t a fluid, colorful person, like his designs what do you think was the motivation behind creating this way?</image:title>
<image:caption>Alice: He always had lots of things, tiny objects, on shelves and tables that were children’s toys. Something silly or fun, because I think he was really childlike under the surface. His creativity, his inventiveness was from that kind of child-like place. Benjamin: Maybe then, if his own personality wasn’t able to let him be this way on the surface we can say that it was his motivation. He could give that to others; he could work for others, in giving them this kind of world he would dream up.</image:caption>
</image:image>

<image:title>Benjamin Interview - As a family business, do you find any crossover with Ralph Pucci as a brand?</image:title>
<image:caption>Benjamin: Totally, there is a long-term story that is always important with family business. Often we realize that, and now more than ever. In France we have one of our manufacturer contacts whose father worked alongside my father. We like to work with them because they understand a type of moral standard, and it’s really a good part of our story. We like when people take care of us, and the investment of our heritage.</image:caption>
</image:image>

<image:title>Benjamin Interview - (To Benjamin) When you were growing up, were there little things you noticed from Pierre that ended up being big lessons in life or design?</image:title>
<image:caption>Benjamin: So I never worked with my father. He kept his work separate in a way. But I would say I kept very close to my mother and for her relations and negotiations were her specialty (in the family business). I think I am a mix of both, because I can read people but can also be firm— in an idea— if I need to be. What I do try and take away from my father is to be a man so dedicated in my work that I am able to make something that matters. </image:caption>
</image:image>
<image:image>
<image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/58cc2ba68419c24732a9e688/1497260497233-MFOZJZR3X1I26ANXX64A/RP_PPP_1.png</image:loc>
<image:title>Benjamin Interview - In a company that is meant for continuing legacy, what is something that paints a personal picture of your Pierre? Are his designs a true reflection of how you saw him?</image:title>
<image:caption>Benjamin: You know, all the comfort, the relaxed look, the sexiness in his design, is not really a reflection of him as a person. I think he was someone who was very exacting. He came from functionalism; all his pieces were based on function, not just fantasy, it was always important he put a sense into what he did. Alice: yes, I think of him as coming across as rude, or very strict, on the surface. But really it’s because he was chasing another world, he wanted to give others an ideal. When he was designing or drawing new pieces, the people in his sketches are always happy and playful.</image:caption>
</image:image>
<image:image>
<image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/58cc2ba68419c24732a9e688/1497261221392-R2SBEIH1VHR1J6HESIRV/image-asset.jpeg</image:loc>
<image:title>Benjamin Interview - Pierre believed that design had the power to benefit society. Is there any way in particular that you see evidence of this through his creations?</image:title>
<image:caption>Benjamin: The thing with my father is he was really inspired by Scandinavian design. And back then you had a lot of wooden, simple furniture made by local craftsmen. It was a community thing, making furniture, and he loved that democratic side of it. Where you involved a hand-made process in order to bring people pieces that made life easier. But unfortunately it’s not always possible to be completely democratic, because now there is no middle ground. As furniture-making has disappeared, construction costs make it not possible to reach to lower priced markets. But still he had this way of thinking that was bent on designing for the people. And in that way, he showed design could still have the power to change the world. You know, you think about President Pompidou and the cocoon room; I think there’s something very warm he added. Because most of the palace’s interior designers used furniture that is very strict to history, it’s harsh. Beautiful but cold. At the palace President Pompidou received dignitaries from all over the world. It was in that room they discussed important issues on my father’s sofa, so just to think: he was a part of that. He helped create that moment. </image:caption>

<image:title>Eric Schmitt - Eric Schmitt Up Close. </image:title>
<image:caption>Eric Schmitt was born in Toulouse in April of 1955. He left Paris in 1997 to live and work at the edge of the Fontainbleau Forest. His pieces, once thoughtfully designed in his workshop, are entrusted to the best craftsmen in France. Reviving the French tradition of decorative arts through modernity, his creations are produced and signed in limited editions for collectors with special appreciation. Eric had his first show at Ralph Pucci in 2006. This November he will have an opening, featuring a new collection as well as a tabletop book dedicated to his works. Offered below is a personal glance into his life, work, and forthcoming book.</image:caption>

<image:title>Marjorie Salvaterra - Often in your work, you capture a host of emotions. Where does this type of inspiration come from? Is there a personal gaze in the work you feel echoes your own life?</image:title>
<image:caption>When I started this project— when I found my voice in photography— I was trying to be so many things to so many people. As a woman you’re expected to show up, look good, and shower! Pick everybody up, and be on time... I was in a whole thing as a new mom, and felt everyone was fancier than I was. I felt I just didn’t fit into that new world. I remember thinking, “One drop of water,” —you know I’m holding it together, holding it together— “one more drop of water would absolutely sink me at this moment.” And all of a sudden I had this image flash into mind, of this weight of water on women, and thought of them lined up in the waves. I leaned over to a friend and said, “I have this idea for a picture!” I didn’t know how I was going to do it, I just got on Ebay, and started going around collecting gowns. I called all my friends to see who’d show up and, from that picture I realized so many people said, “OMG that’s my life!” People just got it, and I couldn’t believe it.</image:caption>

<image:title>Marjorie Salvaterra - You’re based in the thick of pop culture’s heartland. Do you ever feel especially influenced by LA culture?</image:title>
<image:caption>I think because I grew up in Missouri, I’m definitely influenced by the craziness of LA. There’s a feeling like I don’t quite fit in, because of really how surreal and extreme it is here. Sometimes I just have to laugh. Like, I’m in the car one time and I saw Spongebob crossing the street followed by Jesus, and just thought “oh, It’s L.A.” In the end, I always think about how everything is small, and to not let yourself absorb other people’s craziness! It’s the same as what I tell my kids, “If you’re in other people’s business, you’re in the wrong business.” And in art, and life, I think that’s really true.</image:caption>

<image:title>Marjorie Salvaterra - Looking at your striking photography- there’s something very cinematic in your touch. Have any filmmakers ever inspired you?</image:title>
<image:caption>You know I did grow up loving the theatre, and loving movies. I’m a terrible sleeper- I got it from my mother. It’s funny, we used to stay up and just watch movies, it was this thing we always did together. Thinking back on it though, I do think I take more inspiration from the theatre. I’m a storyteller at heart, so that inspiration really comes from the love of stories and the drama of stage.</image:caption>

<image:title>Marjorie Salvaterra - I’m interested in your use of Black & White. Is there a reason why you gravitate towards this medium? Do you see any future series where color is used?</image:title>
<image:caption>Well I can’t say for the future, but I do love black and white. I always did. And even though I didn’t come to photography till my 30’s, it was still before people were shooting digital. I learned on film, my teacher used a black and white 35 mm. So that was always the photography I responded to the most. But also, artistically, black and white adds a little bit of anonymity to people; it takes away unnecessary specifics as a character.</image:caption>

<image:title>Marjorie Salvaterra - On the many wonderful expressive people in front of your lens, it’s amazing how you capture such a great crowd. Who are the women behind your castings?</image:title>
<image:caption>I just love shooting us ordinary women. Sometimes I feel guilty taking up people’s time, but funny enough, my friends are willing. I had this idea for the picture and really needed one last person. So I begged around, you know, “Oh I need somebody so badly!” It’s hilarious, one of my close friends who’s so proper said, “No, no, absolutely not.” But I was super persistent, I really tried to cushion it; “Please, please,— I promise no one will be recognizable!” she said, “Ok, fine but if you ever tell anybody that it’s me I’ll absolutely kill you.” I just laughed and said, “I promise I will never tell anyone!” So we shot it, (she’s in the photo of people lying in the field with tushies up) and I see her at the opening exhibit standing underneath the photo and pointing at it to everyone— And here was someone I had to beg to even say yes! But it’s this thing, with being honest and raw for the sake of art. Another girl whose recently posed naked a few times, she tells everybody, “I had to do it the second time, I end up feeling so good about myself afterwards.” And in a way, that’s really what capturing these women is all about.</image:caption>

<image:title>Marjorie Salvaterra - 5 Questions WITH photographer Marjorie Salvaterra</image:title>
<image:caption>Marjorie Salvaterra is an award-winning photographer, based in LA, who joined Ralph Pucci in 2017. Her work shows balanced tension— a pull between honesty and emotion. She recently sat down with us to talk about the currents that affect us in life and art. In terms of artistic process Marjorie’s approach feels personal and intimate, as if her lens is focused on the relatable and relevant.</image:caption>

<image:title>Alexandra Waldman of Universal Standard - Something we read from your piece on the Today site, is how the environment surrounding Plus-Size sections at major department stores often miss the mark. Can you lend us some insight as to your experiences in this overlooked area?</image:title>
<image:caption>It’s funny, making the trip to the Plus Size section is something anyone can see. It’s almost like a neglected aspect of retail design. I can speak to this, as can every woman who has a Universal Standard size. I hesitate to use the word humiliating, because in order for something to be humiliating you have to participate in the humiliation. I don’t want to participate in that, because no body deserves it…but it is very disheartening. You know, it all started when my future business partner and I were invited to an event. She asked if I was going, but I honestly felt there was nothing I had to wear. She said, “Alex, you live a few blocks from Fifth Avenue. There’s got to be something to wear.” So we went to a popular department store, with every floor so beautiful in design. But for me, my sizing was on the furniture level. You walk to the northeast corner of this floor, where they push clothes to the back and have this dimly lit, poorly set up environment. That was the moment when she sort of went, “Wow. It's really bad”. And because of her business background, and my inspiration to make these inclusive clothes, we sat down, and decided to start Universal Standard together.</image:caption>

<image:title>Alexandra Waldman of Universal Standard - 6 Questions WITH Alexandra Waldman: co-founder of fashion label "Universal Standard" on collaborating with Ralph Pucci</image:title>
<image:caption>Alexandra Waldman, with long time friend Polina Veksler, founded the brand Universal Standard in response to the lack of quality & contemporary style in plus-size fashion. Their mission comes across loud and clear: to offer everyday pieces that fit and function beautifully, for women of a universal-sized average. There is integrity to the clothing that not only speaks of inclusivity, but affordable sustainability as well. In the release of Ralph Pucci’s latest mannequin collection, SIZES, Ralph Pucci selected Universal Standard to outfit the size 8-16 mannequins for the opening show in December. We sat down with Alexandra to take a deeper look into her brand, and the complex journey of creating inclusivity.</image:caption>

<image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/58cc2ba68419c24732a9e688/1507926479239-3RQUSS7O65DOSUYFDB07/RP_US_2.png</image:loc>
<image:title>Alexandra Waldman of Universal Standard - In seeing “body confidence” and the acceptance of curves in fashion as a trend, is there a difference you see in the fashion market now, that hasn’t always been there before?</image:title>
<image:caption>Yes, I would say it's a kind of a balancing act where there is a norm that is much more inclusive. Being accepted by the market so far is an exciting time to be in, because when you say that this is a time where it’s changing, it’s always been changing but it's never been able to be sustained. What the difference is now, is that there is a shift in attitude and a shift towards acceptance that can keep companies like us in business. I think what’s interesting too, is as a country we’ve made so much progress in so many areas of acceptance. It’s sort of like, the last acceptable “Prejudice” is the body. Body shaming is still so prevalent and still so out there. People think the strangest things and presume all these factors about your life from a distance. It’s this kind of overwhelming thought where, in a way, you deserve every inconvenience you experience, simply because of the size of your body. But that’s the reason we exist: as a company I feel that there’s no one else out there creating a space in the mainstream world. The mainstream world being a place where there’s a tasteful selection of nice clothes. In our designs, I don't want to offend or infantilize or sexualize plus-size women. I want to let them have the freedom of clothes that fit well, that look beautiful no matter where they’re headed in their day.</image:caption>
</image:image>
<image:image>
<image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/58cc2ba68419c24732a9e688/1507925939622-MAF5T8GU01RG02VRF3GH/RP_US_4.png</image:loc>
<image:title>Alexandra Waldman of Universal Standard - When I look at your clothes, they have such clean lines; there’s a beautiful sense of structure and near-minimalism that definitely works well with the Pucci aesthetic. Can you speak to the inspiration behind Universal Standard’s “look”?</image:title>
<image:caption>You know, that's very nice to hear. The whole idea behind creating this brand was to make clothes to live in, rather than targeting only special occasions. The “Special Occasion” category is an area that seems to dominate the plus-size industry; there are very few collections out there that are made for the every day parts of life. I guess in that sense, when I think about what I want to wear from day to day, I’d rather keep it simple. Which translates down to the cut and fit as well.</image:caption>

<image:title>Alexandra Waldman of Universal Standard - Tell us about how you first connected with Ralph Pucci International, and how both company cultures ended up blending so well?</image:title>
<image:caption>When Ralph first reached out to me, he started to talk about how the company was going to make these full figured mannequins. Which begged the question, “okay, who’s going to dress them?” and when he looked through the industry, he found us. After visiting our showroom, seeing our clothes up close, he was totally on board. His whole concept is such a great match with what we are all about and what we are trying to do in this industry. And I think we both realized there was a lot of common ground we could take advantage of, creatively. But it wasn’t until I really got to the NYC showroom that the penny dropped. I realized that whatever collaboration was possible was going to be amazing.</image:caption>

<image:title>Alexandra Waldman of Universal Standard - That’s so inspiring, yet illuminates a real problem. I’m curious, along with stores creating negative shopping environments— is the “bad selection” problem one that stems from buyers, or just a lack of good designers?</image:title>
<image:caption>It's a vicious cycle, because there aren't a lot of options out there for buyers. And from a store design perspective, I think “neglect” is the right word. It's surprising, you know, when nearly 70% of the population— the majority of the population— is relegated to the back of some corner on the furniture floor, when they're the ones doing most of the shopping. It’s like there is a certain stereotype for bigger bodies that translates into a biased shopping experience. This is why the fact that, that someone like Ralph doing this amazing thing is almost like a normalization we all have been waiting for; where it's just clothes, it's not you. It’s not “you shop over there because you're like this”. That step towards normalization is something incredible and we're hoping brick-and-mortar stores will follow suit in giving larger sizes the focus they deserve.</image:caption>

<image:title>Alexandra Waldman of Universal Standard - Is there an element to this collaboration that you find especially exciting? A kind of special “take-away” you’ll be able to hold onto?</image:title>
<image:caption>I think what’s so amazing is that Ralph has proven himself to be ahead of the curve, you know, with this project. There’s obviously a matter of him having optimal taste, but he's also really incredibly aware of the changes that are happening in the industry. Everything from the concept of beauty to the commercial side of it to the pace of how fast the markets are moving, he's really kind of ahead of the curve. And looking at what is next is what you have to do in order to be relevant. Because he has that ability to look ahead, we were beyond excited for Universal Standard to be included in this project.</image:caption>

<image:title>Dietmar Busse - Do you plan your photographs or does the process evolve naturally?</image:title>
<image:caption>There are two parts to my photographic process: The first part follows the classic tradition of black and white portrait photography. I plan where and who I photograph beforehand. I shoot film and document what I see when I look through the lens. Then I develop the film and make prints in my darkroom. The second part of my work with photography is much more spontaneous. It allows me to go beyond what I have captured on film. I apply photographic chemicals, inks and dyes to draw and paint over my portraits. I never quite know where the process will lead me, but I follow my intuition— maybe like an explorer in a not-yet-discovered land. The print that underlies these drawings provides the structure and keeps the work rooted in photography. The drawings allow me to express that which lives in my imagination.</image:caption>

<image:title>Dietmar Busse - Where and when was your first public show?</image:title>
<image:caption>My first time exhibiting work publicly was in 2000, with Ralph Pucci. We showed photographs of drawings I had made out of flower petals, stems and leaves. These drawings imagined new species of flowers, and fantastical petal creatures were assembled into their own little stories.</image:caption>

<image:title>Dietmar Busse - What do you hope your art communicates, both to yourself and others? </image:title>
<image:caption>I am not really sure how to answer this one. I don't make art hoping that it will do one thing or another. What I can tell you is that my work is a mirror. The practice of making art helps me gain a better understanding of myself, psychologically and spiritually. For me, making art has a healing quality. It would be nice if others who look at my work take away something that will enrich their own life.</image:caption>

<image:title>Josef Astor - How do you enjoy teaching at SVA? What do you find students nowadays are drawn towards with subject matter or styling? </image:title>
<image:caption>I have been teaching at SVA for nearly 20 years. Each year there is a different energy in the classroom, a changing mix of both international students and locals, which provides a more broad, less “New York centric” focus to the work we see. I began teaching basic B&W darkroom techniques several years ago and it is fascinating to witness a group of digital natives confronting emulsions, chemistry and a protracted process of making a fine print; short attention spans put to the test. But once they dial back the pacing, I've found they actually enjoy having a tactile relationship with the medium. They learn what a photograph consists of on a deeper plane.</image:caption>

<image:title>Josef Astor - What was it like working with Deborah Turbeville and also Irving Penn? </image:title>
<image:caption>Working for photographers whose styles are iconic and highly recognizable was a concern, fearing that my own work might result in a 'light' derivative. The Turbeville experience was the opposite of working with Penn, in that Penn’s photos had a solid, weighty, sculptural quality, with a permanence about them— whereas Turbeville's were about transience and decay, fragmentation, deconstruction and being lost to time. So I hoped that I might avoid too much influence in my own work from either one, hoping that one would neutralize the other. Angus McBean was, however, more of an influence on my work than either of them. </image:caption>

<image:title>Josef Astor - Do you miss working in your studio at Carnegie Hall? Could you expand on the sensory experience felt there?</image:title>
<image:caption>Looking back, I cannot help wondering whether I would be working in the staged set-piece style if it weren't for discovering that studio in 1985. I can't avoid feeling that destiny sent me there. The space felt like a small theater and seemed to demand that I do set pieces; it became like an attic with a repertory company of objects, props and backdrops— ideal for endless pottering. Most of all, the studios offered a community insulated from the chaos of the outside world. The artist tenants in the building became my inspiration, friends and family.</image:caption>

<image:title>Josef Astor - How do you feel about the changes in photography that have taken place over the last few years? ie. the influence of technology, digital manipulation, printing ect. </image:title>
<image:caption>Most of my work was done with film using minimal or no post. With Photoshop, I could easily achieve effects with more facility, but I stay with film because I believe it allows space and opportunity for extraneous / metaphysical forces to intervene during the picture making process. When photographing with film pre- Photoshop, there was a degree of intensity put into the picture making process, often shooting more versions, set-ups - because we never saw results during the session, and knew it could not be altered it afterwards.</image:caption>
</image:image>
<image:image>

<image:title>Josef Astor - How much of your creative process is planned and how much evolves naturally? </image:title>
<image:caption>Most people who see my photos assume they are carefully planned out, as they are staged set pieces and involve many elements. But the truth is that the key elements of each image are most often slipped in at the last minute. We book some props in advance, but most are never used (to the dismay of the stylist) and I usually find something already in my studio/cabinet of curiosities that better suits the concept. So it's not an entirely intuitive process, though I consciously allow for some gaps in order to complete the image in the moment. Unbeknownst to viewers, many photos I've made reflect the energy in the studio at that moment. Note: The young Uma Thurman image seen here is an example of that. This photo has nothing at all to do with the concept Vanity Fair had assigned. The image became an homage to a painting by Balthus of a defiant, obstinate young girl.</image:caption>

<image:title>Josef Astor - Josef Astor</image:title>
<image:caption>Josef Astor was born in Ohio. He received a BFA from Syracuse, and soon after moved to New York where he worked as a photo assistant for Gosta Peterson, Deborah Turbeville, Irving Penn, and a brief time, with Angus McBean. In 1985, he opened up his own studio and began his historically informed, theatrically staged style that drew upon various influences from his life; studies in art history, his father's medical practice, science, and magic. Astor has done advertising campaigns for clients as AT&T, IBM, Hitachi, Phillip Morris, Geoffrey Beene, Bergdorf Goodman, Absolut Vodka and Ralph Pucci. His work has appeared in such magazines as The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, The New York Times Magazine, GQ, House and Garden and Bomb. In 1996, he was the recipient of the Infinity Award for 'Applied Photography' from the International Center of Photography. Josef held his first show, "Displayed" with Ralph Pucci in the early 90's and has an upcoming show with us this May. This show will be traveling to Miami for Art Basel and LA in 2019.</image:caption>

<image:title>Josef Astor - Have you ever had experience with set design? </image:title>
<image:caption>Not formally, only in a way that would serve a concept for a photo. I was putting together an elaborate 'dream/nightmare' set for the NY Times Magazine a few years back for an article about sleeping disorders. They liked the photo very much and made it into the cover. They asked whom to credit for set design. I answered, "me". They looked at me in disbelief, as they just finished a series with Gregory Crewdson who had a long list of set design credits. The answer isn't an egoist one, but a result of the intuitive methods I employ in making sets and environments for my photographs. They are assembled on the spot just before the shooting, and often change dramatically from the original concept.</image:caption>

<image:title>Antoine Bootz - You're best known for your interior photos, what was your most challenging shoot and why?</image:title>
<image:caption>I have to say, every job has different challenges. Whether it’s weather, light, space constrictions, etc., that’s the fun part of it. Every day, every project is different and unique and it’s because of this that I enjoy it.</image:caption>

<image:title>Antoine Bootz - Who is your favorite artist and why?</image:title>

<image:title>Antoine Bootz - antoine bootz</image:title>
<image:caption>Antoine Bootz' talents earned him simultaneous success in both the fine art and commercial photography worlds. He has enjoyed many solo and group shows of his photography in his native Paris and his adopted home, New York City. At the same time, he has had the opportunity to work on advertising campaigns and editorial projects for Calvin Klein, House & Garden, La Rodoute, and many other prestigious clients. Antoine has photographed for Ralph Pucci for the past 20 years. His photographs appear in the Pucci books SHOW and WALL.</image:caption>

<image:title>Antoine Bootz - If you could photograph any object, sculpture, or building, what would it be?</image:title>

<image:title>Antoine Bootz - Is there anything design magazine and their photography campaigns that you would like to see changed or different in any way?</image:title>
<image:caption>I would say for interiors, the work shown in magazines is often very limited to decorating— it shows a very small percentage of people and their actual lives.</image:caption>

<image:title>Manuel Geerinck - Do you have a favorite artist?</image:title>
<image:caption>Not a favorite one, but an eclectic series of artists who continuously experimented in various ways: Gerhard Richter, William Kentridge, Robert Rauchenberg, Jannis Kounellis, Tony Cragg, Paul Klee, Jean Dubuffet just to name a few.</image:caption>

<image:title>Manuel Geerinck - Do you plan your art, or does the process evolve naturally?</image:title>
<image:caption>I like to let my idea unfold. The technical process in my photographs is fairly simple. I have no need for extensive planning. As a result, there is something elemental in everything I've achieved.</image:caption>
</image:image>

<image:title>Manuel Geerinck - You have recently lived in NY, Barcelona, and Paris, how has living in different creative cities influenced your work and your life? </image:title>
<image:caption>I have been lucky to live in these very different and exciting cities, and it has certainly changed my life in many ways. But in contrast, I do not think my work has been strongly influenced by these moves. I work in a bubble; I need a form of insulation to be productive. </image:caption>

<image:title>Manuel Geerinck - manuel geerinck</image:title>
<image:caption>Manuel Geerinck was born on October 8th, 1961 in Brussels, Belgium. He is a graduate of the Belgium National School for Visual Arts in 1986 and went on to teach at the Académie Royale des Beaux Arts in Brussels. In 1996, he moved to Paris and began working as a painter and photographer. Since then he has lived and worked in NY and Barcelona, where his work has been shown internationally. In 2012, he won the prestigious first place price at the World Photography Awards in the conceptual category. Geernick’s work is represented in major public and private collections, including the New York Whitney Museum of American Art Library, Amsterdam’s BAS and the Bibliothêque Nationale de Paris. He first started showing at Ralph Pucci in 2007.</image:caption>

<image:title>Manuel Geerinck - If you had to label your art, would it be abstract conceptual? Or perhaps something else? </image:title>
<image:caption>I had the chance to be featured in a book published by Aperture Foundation, written by the art critic Lyle Rexer. He called my feature, “The Edge of Vision, the Rise of Abstraction in Photography”. I like this title. I like to think my work lies on the edge.</image:caption>

<image:title>Manuel Geerinck - You attended art college to study graphic design, what led you to become the artist you are today?</image:title>
<image:caption>I see freedom as self-determination; I didn't feel free enough working as a graphic designer. I have always tried not to be constrained and making art was probably a natural answer.</image:caption>
</image:image>

<image:title>Manuel Geerinck - What do you hope your art communicates— both to yourself and to others?</image:title>
<image:caption>A taste of infinity: my images make no literal reference to anything; the viewer is free to make any sort of associations. It is not representational nor completely abstract. While we live in a Cartesian environment, I hope that my art offers a glimpse into the unknown.</image:caption>

<image:title>Manuel Geerinck - Is the art process as important to you as the final result?</image:title>
<image:caption>Art process is the framework of mental activity, a translator of imagination. To limit the interference with the ideas, the process has to be familiar enough. But it needs to evolve to avoid repetition. You do not fight your tool. In the final result, the method should disappear leaving the mystery intact.</image:caption>
